Tokyo Update

The Tokyo shoot for K-Swiss and MTV was a huge success, and thoroughly enjoyable for all involved. We would like to extend our thanks to everyone At K-Swiss International, Furst Media and MTV Japan for their professionalism and efforts during the week's shooting, and to everyone in Tokyo who helped make the project run so smoothly. Big thanks also to the Takuma and the guys from the band '10-Feet'; the music video should be excellent!

The results will soon be shown worldwide on MTV and on the K-Swiss wesbite, and when they are up we'll provide the links here.

Parkour and Positive Futures

Over the summer months Parkour Coaching will again be running three workshops a week for 8-13 year olds as part of the Edutain Programme in conjunction with Westminster Sports Unit and Positive Futures.

Edutain is a government funded scheme based on providing constructive, challenging activities for young people in the school holidays. The programme aims to encourage citizenship and crack down on crime and anti-social behaviour.

RBKC Workshops

The week of July 23-27 will see Parkour Coaching providing two workshops per day for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council. The workshops will all be held outside in the borough, using the natural urban terrain.

Parkour Coaching athletes Stephane, Dan, Forrest & Tracey are to be featured in a video created by Julie Angel as part of an installation comissioned by the museum. The museum is a privately funded foundation, presenting a variety of exhibitions on Swiss and international architecture.

Parkour theatrics

Parkour Coaching embark upon an innovative project this weekend with the exciting and creative dance theatre company Kompany Malakhi. Over the coming months we will be teaching parkour to dancers auditioning for roles in Malakhi's forthcoming 2008 live performance tour, and helping Malakhi to integrate parkour movements into several key scenes of its latest stage show.

The Berkshire Encyclopedia of Extreme Sports has just been published, containing a contribution on the discipline of parkour written by Dan. This is the first time parkour has found its way into a hardcopy encyclopedia and is just another indicator of the growing recognition the discipline is now receiving.

First Parkour Parks to arrive this year.

Parkour Coaching is currently working on two separate projects to build permanent and specialised Parkour training areas in London: one with the City of Westminster which will be completed in December of this year; and another with Roehampton University’s SPARC - The Sport Performance Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre.

These parks are designed by traceurs to enable practitioners to work freely on every aspect of the discipline in one dedicated space, and will be open to public use at any time of day or night.

Wiltshire in particular has seen an explosion of its practising community as a result, with one group of young traceurs managing to raise several thousand pounds in funding to develop their own website, training facility and generally build on what they have learned from the workshops.

Our congratulations to Dale, John and the rest of the guys and to Nick Thrower from the Alternative Sports Programme for guiding them through their process.
