New York City Training Day: Feb 14th

On the 14th of February a team from Parkour Generations will be holding an open training day in New York City, New York. Starting in Heckscher Playground in Central Park at around 11am, the day will take the shape of an informal training event at which anyone is welcome to come and practise and access knowledge and methods from our team. Julie Angel will be capturing the goings-on on film, and we hope to see as many of our American colleagues as possible.

Parkour and Architecture Exhibition

From March of this year the Swiss Architecture Museum's exhibition 'Instant Urbanism', which features a Julie Angel 40 minute edit of Parkour Generations Members Dan, Stephane, Forrest and Tracey training will also be featured at the Danish Architecture Centre and will then travel across Europe to Espai d'Art Contemporani de Castellón. Quietly Busy...

A busy few days at the moment, with shoots ongoing with both Julie Angel and photographer Andy Day - producing some excellent results as usual. A couple of new taster shots can be found in the Gallery, and Julie's project filming 12 of the Academy women in action in London is already shaping up very well. Johann has had a great time so far teaching in Brazil, while workshops run by Forrest, Stephane and Chris in new schools in Hackney and Wiltshire have also gone down a storm. Yahoo Film Featuring Parkour

Currently Julie Angel is shooting a piece with Team Member Tracey and the female students of our Parkour Academy which will be part of a feature film project sponsored by internet giant Yahoo entitled 'Global City Beats'. More information on the film, which will be released first in theatres in Germany and then may move on to global release, can be found here.

Brazilian Seminar

The end of this month will see Parkour Generations Team Member Johann Vigroux running a seminar in the city of São José dos Campos, Brazil, for the parkour community there. Johann will stay to share his considerable knowledge and experience with all who want to learn for several days. This national meeting is sponsored and supported by the city authorities and the Mayor's office of São José. More information can be found on the Brazilian parkour community site here.

Grass Roots Workshops...

This week we will be running first-time workshops at Hackney Free and Parochial School in London, and John Bentley and Wooton Bassett Schools in Wiltshire. These introductory workshops aim to educate both the students and staff as to the many benefits of parkour training, and are proving to be incredibly popular. Girls Active Day: UPDATE

Today saw the Girls Active Day go off with a bang in Leyton, East London, where Stephane, Tracey and Peter ran workshops for the girls all day long which were very well received. Organised in conjunction with Dame Kelly Holmes (seen here with Stephane and some of the coaches), the Olympic champion threw herself into the parkour workshops as well and soon displayed a strong natural talent! All in all a great event. Photos will be on the site soon, and there will now be more sessions to come at the SCORE centre venue in Leyton.

Teenage Kicks Event Televised

The Teenage Kicks Event, a sportathon for young people at which we ran several workshops, is being televised as a movie on the UK Community Channel at 12pm and 6pm on Tuesday 22nd January. The day was the 6th successive event since the start of the programme, and the most successful by far.

Internet giant Youtube has invited Parkour Generations to take part in its Upfront Event, taking place in New York city in February. Film-maker Julie Angel, whose work with us has received such acclaim on the internet - even to the extent of two of her short films being featured on Youtube's own homepage - has very much caught their eye and she has several more projects in the pipeline. Today UK national newspaper The Daily Express spent some time with Parkour Generations Team Member Forrest to gain an insight into the history and proper practise of parkour. With Forrest running their journalist through a private taster session in London, they are sure to have a good idea of how difficult the discipline can be! The various schools running weekly parkour classes led by our coaches have all got underway again smoothly this year, with class sizes growing as interest swells. Over the next few weeks we will be running taster workshops for at least 6 more schools interested in joining the programme, most of which will then be taking up regular classes like the others. Using the Airwaves...

UK radio station Q103 today recorded an interview with Parkour Generations Team Member Dan, covering the growth of the discipline and important aspects such as correct methods of practise and safety in learning. This kind of mass communication is ever more useful as a vehicle by which to combat misunderstandings and mirepresentations of the discipline in the media, which are sadly still all too common. The interview went out live today and will be played a few times in the week.

CBC News on Parkour

Next week Canadian television channel CBC will be filming for a piece on the growth of parkour to broadcast on Canadian and US television. The news crew will be shooting at one of our classes and spending some time with a few of our team to gain an insight into the practise and history of the discipline. The piece will then air on January 28th.

Girls Active Day - 21st Jan

Monday the 21st of January we will be running parkour workshops as part of the Girls Active sports day in Leyton's SCORE Centre with Dame Kelly Holmes. The event will give hundreds of girls the opportunity to train with some of our coaches and gain a solid introduction to the discipline in a pressure-free environment. With female participation in parkour growing all the time, this kind of event is just the sort of development we are very keen to support and promote.

RBKC Workshop Course

We are currently running a 6-week workshop course for the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, being held every Wednesday evening from this week until Feb 13th from 7pm. The course caters for young people in the borough, and is only one of many such courses planned for early 2008. Check back here for more information on the workshops as they come around.

Girl Jams Kick Off 2008

The first Girl's Jam of the new year occurred on Sunday 6th January, and despite the freezing temperatures in London the traceuses turned out in force to train the day away. Kazuma attended as guest instructor, and also present was Katty Belle - the longest practising woman in parkour. Leaving Las Vegas...

Team members Stephane, Dan and Johann have just returned from performing live at Las Vegas, and the show proved to be a big hit. As well as the live display the team were also shot for a commercial, using the suburban and industrial areas that surround the strip itself, which also went very smoothly. Many thanks to Erin and everyone at Minerpro for their professionalism and hospitality, and to Danny, Steve and John for managing the shoot so effectively with limited time!

Success in Spain

The live event we put on in Spain yesterday for the ACTUAL arts festival was a great success and the team thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The opening sequence on and around a large traditional hotel building drew a large crowd and the day progressed from there, with a public showing of 'Jump Westminster' and an interactive display in the evening involving 15 Spanish traceurs who had travelled from far and wide to be there for the day.
