Camden Adventure Playground Build

We recently collaborated with Erect Architecture and won the bid to consult and construct a new peer-conceived adventure playground in Kilburn Grange Park, Camden. We will be starting a series of workshops in the development space in June to introduce the local young people and the designers to the possibilities of use for the area. This should be a fascinating project that draws on the local community to create their own bespoke space for play and movement.

Off the wall will be held at Vauxhall this Sunday from 12.45, meeting outside the Vauxhall Tavern Pub on Goding Street. Anyone is welcome and the Jam is totally free for everyone. Today sees us running workshops as part of Petchey Academy's Health Day. Through partnerships with local healthcare providers including major teaching hospitals, the Royal College of Nursing, the National Health Service (NHS), and the local healthcare trust, the Petchey Academy specialises in health, care and medical sciences. This opens up career and life opportunities which have not easily been available to many young people in London.

London Youth Project Starts

Thursday 28th May we will be running a parkour taster day for the London Youth organisation, who are embracing the discipline as part of their new sports programme – ‘Getting Ready for 2012 and beyond’. London Youth is a vibrant network of more than 400 youth clubs serving 75,000 young people a year, and this event launches the project which will expand to reach many more youth clubs and young people across the capital.

Brighton University Event: May 27

This Wednesday, May 27th, we will be at Brighton University running an event featuring workshops for PE teachers from around the UK, demonstrations and presentations on the benefits of the discipline in schools and for young people. Brighton University is one of the hubs for the development of training for Physical Education teachers in schools, and with the demand for good parkour instruction in schools growing this serves as one of several great opportunities to introduce these teachers to the basic principles of the discipline.

A little while ago we ran a seminar event in Rome, Italy in collaboration with Parkour Italy and Majestic Force, as an effort to raise money and gifts for children in Rome's most respected Pediatrics Hospital. Space Deprivation Training..!

Over the next 5 weeks our usual indoor Academy space at Moberly is being refitted, which means the Monday and Thursday classes there will be held in a section of the main sports hall instead. A little smaller, it just means everyone will have to be that much more spatially aware during training..! Please note that the classes ARE still running, but you won't find us in our usual space. The latest school to join our Parkour for Schools training course programme is Aylands School in Enfield, a special school for children who have Emotional or Behavioural Difficulties. The classes begin there Tuesday 19th May and run every week until the end of term, and it should prove to be a very positive and interesting course for both the young people and our team alike. Tomorrow sees us running another class for the ongoing Pupil Referral Unit workshop course for the City of Westminster. Pupil Referral Units, as part of the government's Every Child Matters scheme, exist to provide a suitable and appropriate education to children of compulsory school age who, because of illness, exclusion or otherwise, are unable to attend a maintained (ie mainstream or special) school.

Girls' Jam London: Sunday 10th May

This Sunday, 10th May, there will be a free Girls' Jam training day in London, meeting at Latimer Road tube station (Hammersmith and City Line) at 12pm. Open to any and all women, no matter their level of experience or ability, the Girl Jams are a great way for women to get together and train in a friendly, helpful environment. With many experienced practitioners there to share tips and advice on training, along with at least one Parkour Generations instructor on hand at all times, the Jams are well worth the tube fare! John Bentley School

This Saturday team member Blane will be running a workshop at John Bentley School in Calne, Wiltshire, from 10am-1pm. The Calne scene has grown incredibly well since we have been running workshops there, with several of the young guys becoming solid practitioners over the last two years. Architecture for Play Project

Erect Architecture is an award winning group of London-based architects whose most recent project is to create a series of innovative playgrounds that appropriate forgotten spaces and found objects to challenge and expand the conception of play. Parkour Generations has been approached to provide the unique insight parkour offers for the construction and use of these structures in these spaces, leading to workshops for young people on these sites during their development.
