This past weekend saw the American Rendezvous gathering in the United States continue the 3 year tradition of being quite simply an amazing few days. 

This week sees the first ever ADAPT coaching qualification course being run in Canada, in the city of Quebec. 

Tutors Dan Edwardes and Chris 'Blane' Rowat are leading the Level 1 Asistant Coach course, which has its assessment day on Thursday 31st May. The course is full of strong candidates with a passion for communicating and passing on the discipline.

The Debrief this week talks to the outstanding Traceuse that is Shirley Darlington.

Parkour Generations recently completed a video and photo shoot organised, filmed and edited by leading premium brand marketing agency Hudson Wright Associates for client Dairy Crest. Alongside our parkour photographer, Kiell, the filmmakers recorded team members Steve, Leon, Pete, Kevin and Dom doing their stuff at some of the infamous London training hotspots to promote a range of Dairy Crest products.

A small group of practitioners from London including our very own Leon Lawrence and Stephen Moss have just returned from a trip to Norway where they trained with Stord Parkour in Leirvik. Stord Parkour is run by Gareth Whittaker who teaches on a regular basis at schools using his ADAPT qualification. Gareth also runs adult classes at various spots in the town.

We have a short video for you this week, but you will be blown away by the flowing dance-style movements performed by Russia's Daria Lanskova. The video is a beautiful concept that really works and it will also make you want your own set of scaffolding!

An article on the Daily Telegraph's website posted yesterday recommends our indoor and outdoor classes as a great way to keep fit. The article, entitled 'Alternatives to the gym: ten of London's best unusual workouts', states something that every Traceur and Traceuse knows: Parkour is a 'workout so varied the fitness benefits are obvious'.

The Philippines own National Jam was hosted by Parkour Sugbo a few weeks ago and affiliate coach John Conway was invited to coach. The video from the event has now been produced and can be found here as part of an online show called 'Flow State'. It's an inspirational watch and shows the hard work put in by everyone attending. Well done guys!

Apologies for the late notice, but this month's Off the Wall will be held this Sunday (27th May). As the weather is due to be a hot one, we will meet up at Hampstead station on the Northern line at 12 midday. From there we will move on to explore Hampstead Heath for some tree training/climbing and general mayhem. Make sure you are on time as once we are on the heath it will be hard to find us!

Inspired by a very popular online Flickr gallery showcasing individuals and their personal belongings by photographer J Trav (See his Flickr gallery here), we thought it could be quite an interesting experiment to capture members of the parkour community in much the same way.

The Debrief this week focuses on one of the most famous and talented Traceurs in the world. Tim 'Livewire' Shieff is now known the world over for his amazing handstands, epic tricks and big jump.

Organised by our friends over at StreetMovement, the annual StreetCamp event is for younger practitioners who come out to train at the Gerlev Sports Academy over the course of a few days. This year saw team member James Gore heading over to Denmark to give the kids some new additional parkour skills to their repertoire and have a play on the awesome facilities the StreetMovement guys have built over there.

Director Dan Edwardes and Senior Instructor Chris 'Blane' Rowat are currently out in Columbus, Ohio ahead of the US Rendezvous event to deliver the level 1 ADAPT qualification course to the new batch of aspiring Parkour coaches. The three day course covers the essential points of becoming an assistant coach and requires the participants to learn about many different topics surrounding the discipline as well as the important aspects of teaching and coaching as a skill. 

Over the last few days a four man Parkour Generations contingent consisting of team members Brian Obeng, Chris Keighley, Pete McKee and Leon Lawrence have been leading parkour workshops right on the doorsteps of the Vatican, Rome, for the Italian national event, Ecce Parkour.

From all reports, everyone had an amazing time on the purpose built parkour structure built in the Piazza del Risorgimento, just outside the Vatican.

National Governing Body Parkour UK's official London 2012 Inspire Mark Project 'Jump London' which aims to create 500 new Parkour / Freerunning Coaches, Teachers & Leaders is well on target . . .

Today we took part in an event run by Sportinspired called the 'Community Games'. The idea is simple: local schools compete against one another in a 'sports day' where they are encouraged to try new sports. As PK is non-competitive we had to be a little inventive, but it seemed that the kids enjoyed it (judging by the noise) and it was deemed a success by all involved. A couple of photos of the event showing our obstacle course are attached.

Wit the recent opening of our new indoor Academy classes in Thailand, the press got down to interview Stephane Vigroux, Director of Parkour Generations Asia and head coach for the region.

The video interview shows the indoor classes in action, at which Jump London star Johann Vigroux and our good friend Anan Anwar also assisted with the coaching.

How long have you been a Traceur?

Another busy week here at PKGen, with the Team heading to three separate countries for community and coaching projects:

Italy - we'll be running the coaching at Italy's annual Ecce Parkour training event in Rome, May 18-20, with four of the team heading out there to bring movement joy and pain alike.

This past weekend saw many of the team down at our LEAP  training facility in central London for an action shoot with film-maker Julie Angel, to put the finishing touches on a new documentary that has been commissioned about the creation of the world's first official managed parkour park. 

Full details of our seminar in Quebec, Canada, from June 1-3 hosted by the good people at ADD Quebec, are now available online - including a full schedule of the modules and training sesions we will be running in conjunction with the Yamakasi founders.

As of this week, Parkour Generations Asia has opened and is now running the first ever indoor parkour classes in Thailand - and as far as we know, the first indoor classes in South-East Asia.

We recently completed a photoshoot involving our Youth Academy students at the London LEAP facility for the official London 2012 Inspire Programme Exhibition, which is open to the public from May 9-17. 

James Howes is a founding member of Flight Freerunning based in Hertfordshire and Essex and has been coaching Parkour with them since 2010.

How long have you been a Traceur?

A new book on the philosophy, spirit and values of parkour/art du deplacement has just hit the shelves, authored by Canadian practitioner and author Vincent Thibault of ADD Quebec. 

Starting this Thursday (10th May) the Discovery Class will meet at a new location: Kilburn. Meet outside Kilburn Park station on the Bakerloo line at 8pm for some training and exploration.

We'd like to welcome two new individuals to our PKGen Affiliate Coaches team - Soxacen Rodriguez and Mitch Lee.

A newly-released music video 'Follow the Leader' by Puerto Rican duo Wisin and Yandel features some great Parkour in a huge chase scene. The artists themselves (featuring J-Lo) are chased through the streets of Acapulco, Mexico by a large group of skilled Traceurs for no apparent reason as far as we can tell. The Parkour was provided by a huge selection of Traceurs including Phil Doyle and Daniel Arroyo. A link to the video is below.

Monday night's Academy Class at Moberly Leisure Centre will not be running on the 7th May due to the Bank Holiday. The class will be back to it's butt-kicking self the following week.

As of this month we are running Academy Classes in Thailand's largest fitness centres, California Fitness - beginning at their flagship centre in Bangkok's giant shopping mall, Siam Paragaon. 

On the 19th May the Royal Institute of British Architects will be hosting our very own Andy 'Kiell' Day as he co-presents a talk on Parkour photography. The talk is followed by an actual photography session with some of our own athletes providing the action. If you want to learn how to shoot Parkour well or to improve your own shots, this may be your chance to learn from the best.
