Sky Sports recently spent a couple of days with us, talking to some of the team and covering one of our Youth Sessions at London's LEAP facility. The result: a fantastic feature that actually goes a little bit more in-depth into what parkour is and why people practise it. And this time we get to hear from the most important practitioners of all - the new generations of young people taking it up at an amazing rate.

Starting tomorrow (Monday 13th February) the regular half-term Parkour Camp for kids is back on at Westminster Academy in Royal Oak. For 8 to 18 year olds, the camp is a week long drop-in course from 10am until 1pm and is a training-packed afternoon of a little bit of hard-work, a portion of playing games and a large slice of movement fun.

UK NGB, Parkour UK, has been working for some time now with the Matalan-sponsored UK-wide initiative, the Matalan Sporting Promise, a fantastic project which aims to get more young people back into sports by introducing them to non-traditional physical activities - with parkour being one of the nine activities chosen.

Today Dan, Forrest and Blane will be in Manchester delivering workshops and presenting the discipline of parkour at the launch event for the Matalan Sporting Promise, in partnership with the Youth Sport Trust, a nationwide project committed to getting more young people to take part in more sport. The programme aims to support primary school teachers in improving the PE experience for all children through the

This Saturday we will be running a workshop day for London Youth in Greenwich from 11.30am to 4pm. The venue is the Samuel Montague Youth Centre, 122 Broad Walk, Kidbrooke, London SE3 8ND. We're always happy to work with London Youth, which is a vibrant network of 400 youth clubs serving 75,000 young people a year in the UK. If you're in the area on Saturday, come on down ;)

With all our regular adult classes going from strength to strength, it's great to see that our Under 19s Youth Academy class on Friday evenings is booming too. Now averaging around 35 students per class, the sessions - run principally by Dom and Yao - may even require a third instructor to cope with the numbers as this summer the class will at times be held in the outside section of the Westminster Academy Sports Centre. The next generation is looking very healthy indeed...

Having just been to see the brand new Academy Sports Centre which will soon be the home of our Youth Academy class, we can safely say the new location will be a huge step up from its old premises. As of 23rd November, the Youth Academy will be run on a Friday evening at the same time of 6.30-8.30pm for 9-19 year olds. Completely free to all who live in the Westminster area, the Youth Academy is the ideal training ground for budding young traceurs. Watch this space for more information.

Mid-October will see our free Youth Academy classes relocating to a brand new and state-of-the-art sports centre just across the road from where it is currently held on the Harrow Road. The new location boasts plenty of new Olympic standard training apparatus as well as a much bigger space. In all likelihood we will also add another adult Academy class there in the week too, to cope with the growing demand for teaching. More details nearer the time.
