Swindon Academy Workshops

Today saw Forrest running a day of workshops at the new <a href="http://www.swindon-academy.org/"target="_blank">Swindon Academy</a> in Wiltshire, which went down incredibly well and challenged all of the students who participated in the way only parkour can! Next week we will be running workshops for Westminter Council, Eastbury School in Barking, Roehampton University, the Wiltshire Games in Chippenham, the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, and East Barnet, all on top of our regular <a href="http://www.parkourgenerations.com/classes.php?p=outdoor"target="_blank">Academy</a> classes.

In The Meantime, Off The Wall...

A massive thanks to all that made it down to Sunday's Off The Wall yesterday, as well as the residents of Lewisham and Greenwich for having such an overwhelmingly positive attitude.

On what turned out to be a sunny Sunday afternoon in Lewisham, the fifth Off The Wall began with a warm-up run which went straight into a game of Ground Zero that saw the hoards aiming to navigate along a half mile stretch without touching the ground along the way. This led to a tour around three of the newer spots along the route to Greenwich, which was highlighted by a mass game of a game of Cat & Mouse Tag, Parkour style. Then after reaching the finale at zig-zagged sloped walls, everyone jammed, played and trained until it was time to go. A fun day!

Keep an eye out for the upcoming Birthday Special Off The Wall taking place on Sunday 27th of July - a promise of even more fun!

WAYS Seminar: Trowbridge

Yesterday we ran another highly successful workshop for the <a href="http://www.ways.org.uk/"target="_blank">Wiltshire Alternative Youth Sports</a> organisation, this one being held in Trowbridge and running all day as part of a sports festival. Highlight of the day was a 10 year old girl outdoing boys much older than her in the catleap training..! Thanks to Nick Thrower of WAYS for his continuing efforts to raise awareness of fitness and physicality among the young people of Wiltshire.

London Jam Imminent: Sunday 29th June

A reminder that this month's Off The Wall open gathering will be held on Sunday June 29th in Greenwich. Although not a very well documented spot, its renowned for its elevated walls which lead up to one of the clearest views of London. To get there, we'll be meeting slightly earlier than usual at Lewisham Station as part of the Jam will be taking the journey to the station itself. For those that wish to, there's a long stretch of road along the way that can be taken with minimal need to touch the ground at all. To meet, come out of the station, and walk down the hill on the left hand side towards the main road, and we'll gather there!

Please note that the Jubilee Line is due to be closed that weekend, so don't plan to interchange between Jubilee and DLR Lines at Canary Wharf (even though the Canary Wharf DLR station remains open).
Rausch Magazine Article

Although there are newspaper and magazine articles happening all the time, every now and again a decent and truly positive one shows up..! The July issue of German style and sports publication <a href="http://www.rauschmagazin.de/"target="_blank">Rausch Magazine</a> features a long interview with Team Member <a href="http://www.parkourgenerations.com/biography.php?p=ttiltman"target="_blank">Tracey</a>, which touches on the simple truths of the discipline of parkour and the pure joy it can bring to all practitioners. Worth a look if you can get hold of a copy outside of Germany!

Healthy Living Festivals for Schools

On Friday 27th June we are running workshops at Rotherfield Primary School and on Friday 4th July we are at Newington Green Primary as part of the Healthy Living Festivals, which aim to promote the many benefits of active and healthy lifestyles. Getting children involved in the discipline from a young age has proven to be extremely powerful in encouraging in them a positive and health-oriented mindset, and is something we are very much supportive of.

First Scientific Research On Parkour Begins

In July of this year we will be working closely with the renowned Sport Performance Assessment and Rehabilitation Centre at Roehampton University <a href="http://www.roehampton.ac.uk/sparc/">(SPARC)</a> to carry out the first physiological tests into the effects and benefits of parkour training. Several of the Parkour Generations team will be involved in the tests, which will utilise the latest physical analysis equipment to measure all aspects of the traceur's profile during practise. Quite unprecedented, these tests should provide an excellent insight into what goes on in the body when we push ourselves through parkour. More details will follow as the tests get underway.
